Building on the success of previous MedAccred conferences dedicated to international accreditation processes in engineering education (Tunisia 2017, Morocco 2018, Algeria 2019, Tunisia 2022), the Mediterranean Network of Engineering and Management Schools (RMEIM), in collaboration with the International University of Rabat (UIR), the National Higher School of Mines of Rabat (ENSMR), and the Mohammed VI International Academy of Civil Aviation (AIAC), is organizing the fifth edition, MedAccred V, which will take place from December 11 to 13, 2025, on the campus of the International University of Rabat (UIR) in Morocco.
This conference marks a new stage in the collective reflection on quality assurance, accreditation, and pedagogical innovation. It will place at the core of discussions topics such as competency frameworks, learning outcome descriptors, micro-certifications, and Open Badges, which have become key levers for quality enhancement and alignment of academic programs with the needs of the socio-economic world.
MedAccred V will bring together international experts, institutional representatives, academic stakeholders, and professionals from both shores of the Mediterranean. A special focus will be placed on engaging stakeholders from the broader Maghreb and Sub-Saharan Africa, to strengthen regional dynamics and promote South-South cooperation in the fields of accreditation and quality improvement.
The program will feature high-level keynote speeches, panel discussions, technical workshops, and research sessions addressing strategic topics such as competency assessment, integration of artificial intelligence in accreditation processes, inclusion and sustainability in quality frameworks, and the implementation of ISO 21001 in higher education institutions.
Through this initiative, MedAccred V aims to create new synergies among institutions, encourage the exchange of innovative practices, and contribute to the emergence of a shared Mediterranean and African space for quality and accreditation in higher education.
Motivation
The fifth edition of the MedAccred conference will be held at the International University of Rabat (UIR), in partnership with engineering and management schools that are members of the RMEIM network, along with other institutions committed to and interested in quality assurance in higher education and the development of accreditation systems. This initiative is part of a strategic ambition to promote academic excellence, strengthen the integration of international quality standards, and foster convergence in pedagogical practices among institutions across the Mediterranean region and the African continent.
The 2025 edition offers a strategic platform for reflection and action, aimed at encouraging the adoption of internationally recognized standards such as CTI, EUR-ACE, ABET, and the ISO 21001 standard dedicated to the management of educational organizations. These frameworks are essential for structuring competency-based programs, ensuring their quality, enhancing their appeal, and supporting graduate employability in a globalized context. MedAccred V is fully aligned with the innovation dynamics transforming higher education today. It will highlight the impact of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and generative AI, on learning processes, accreditation, quality management, and the assessment of learning outcomes. The conference will also address key themes such as lifelong learning, recognition of student engagement through micro-certifications, definition of competency frameworks, and evidence-based and outcome-oriented evaluation approaches.
This edition will also feature a special research session, designed to showcase scientific work, share best practices, and strengthen connections between academic communities and quality assurance stakeholders. The session aims to generate new insights grounded in research findings, with the goal of informing institutional policies and accreditation strategies. Beyond its scientific program, the conference seeks to be an inclusive space for dialogue between decision-makers, experts, accreditors, educators, students, and representatives from the socio-economic world, fostering the exchange of experiences, the confrontation of perspectives, and the building of concrete synergies. The expected impact goes far beyond the participating institutions: it aims to help build a regional educational ecosystem founded on excellence, transparency, innovation, sustainability, and openness, capable of responding to the demands of a rapidly changing world.
MedAccred V will place particular emphasis on the challenges of sustainable development, inclusion, and gender equality, by questioning their place within accreditation frameworks and promoting educational initiatives that embody equity, diversity, and social responsibility.
Hosted in a high-level academic environment, equipped with modern infrastructure and firmly anchored in the international landscape, UIR reaffirms through this event its commitment to supporting the modernization of higher education in Morocco and Africa, through a systemic vision of educational quality that integrates competencies, technology, societal impact, sustainability, and international cooperation
